A GOOD MIXER:
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Thomas March, Poet
Thomas March is a poet, performer, and essayist. OUT Magazine described his poetry collection, Aftermath(2018), as “a stimulating, if sober, tonic for our times.” Two poems from Aftermath were adapted by composer Eric Schorr for his 2022 album New York Pretending to Be Paris (Albany records). From 2018 to 2023, he was the host and curator of Poetry/Cabaret, a bi-monthly “variety salon” performance series nominated for multiple Broadway World Cabaret Awards. With painter Valerie Mendelson, he is the co-creator of A Good Mixer, a text and visual hybrid project that imagines a virtual cocktail party in the form of paintings of people’s cocktails and poems representing the thoughts and desires of their drinkers. In recent years, he has written and performed his “tragi-comic” monologues at a number of venues in New York City, including Ars Nova, The Duplex, Joe’s Pub, The Peoples Improv Theater, and Sid Gold’s Request Room. With PEN America’s Prison Writing Program, he has served as a judge for the Prison Writing Contest, and for the inaugural L’Engle-Rahman Award for Mentorship. In October 2023, he was named a National Arts Club Fellow for 2023-24. Instagram/Twitter: @realthomasmarch
